This country is in need of change; Vicki Basile; Beaver County Times; September 16, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I felt compelled to issue a wake-up call after seeing the recent polls in our presidential race.

“For all of you who like to struggle to pay bills, buy groceries, put gasoline in your tank and afford everyday expenses: Please vote for McCain/Palin.”

[RWC] You’ll note Ms. Basile doesn’t tell us what her unnamed candidate would do to ease her struggles.

“I am amazed that after the way things have been over the last eight years, that even Republicans could think that this country doesn’t need a change.”

[RWC] Yep, leftism is just what this country needs – not.  Any change we need is a move toward conservative principles, though I’m fairly sure that’s not what Ms. Basile means.

“Open your eyes, people!  Anything has to be better than what we have now.”

[RWC] Was Ms. Basile born after Jimmy Carter’s stagflation (double-digit mortgage rates, double-digit unemployment, and near double-digit inflation) and gasoline rationing years?

“Most importantly, our young men and women are dying in Iraq.  Once again, if you think this is OK, vote for Sen. John McCain.  He has made it clear he has no intentions of ending the war.  We have gone above and beyond, and it is time for Iraq to stand on its own.”

[RWC] Sorry, Ms. Basile, but you’re lying about Mr. McCain’s Iraq position.

“It is time for a leader who wants to help the working class, not the upper class.  Vote Democrat.”

[RWC] Ms. Basile, nearly everyone in the U.S. is in the “working class,” even the “upper class.”

Did you note what was missing from Ms. Basile’s letter?  Yep, she never told us why to vote for Democrats and didn’t provide any details.
