Velma Berger – 4/26/06

Listen to the retired generals; Velma Berger; Beaver County Times; April 26, 2006.

This is the latest in a series of Bush and Iraqi-bashing letters written by Ms. Berger dating back at least a year.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Regarding the April 17 editorial concerning the high-ranking generals who have served in Iraq calling for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation:

“These generals know the true situation and the many errors that have occurred.  Right from the beginning, our troops did not have body armor.  They had to supply their own.”

[RWC] “These generals know the true situation?”  What about the other thousands of retired generals and admirals?  What about the retired generals who support Sec. Rumsfeld?

“The Humvees they were using were not equipped with extra protection.  They were attaching pieces of scrap metal.  Because of the publicity, these things have been corrected.  How many troops were killed because of this neglect?”

[RWC] You have to love people like Ms. Berger.  The enemy didn’t kill our men, our equipment did.

“When Bush No. 1 went to the Gulf War, he stopped short of taking Saddam out because he said that was as far as he was supposed to go.”

[RWC] Not going to Baghdad was a condition Bush #41 had to swallow to get the cooperation of the Middle East countries.  That was known before the Gulf War.

“This time, we went to war over weapons of mass destruction.  None was found.

“Then, the administration said it was to remove the evil dictator.  It accomplished that.  So why are we still there?”

[RWC] Ms. Berger, read the Iraq War Resolution.

Why are we still in Germany and South Korea?

“Let the Iraqi people fight for their own freedom.  Bin Laden is not in Iraq and never was.  Our main objective should be capturing him.”

[RWC] Pay attention to the news, Ms. Berger.  Far more Iraqis are dying for their freedom than are Americans.

No one ever claimed Osama bin Laden was in Iraq.  I want bin Laden captured, but what does Ms. Berger believe will happen if/when we capture him?  Bin Laden didn’t start Islamofascist terrorism and his capture/death won’t end it.

“As I write this letter, four more Marines were killed today.  This makes 47 for April so far.  This war president will never admit to any mistakes or lies.”

[RWC] In no way do I believe Ms. Berger cares about our men and women in harm’s way.

You’ll note Ms. Berger didn’t tell us what lies President Bush told.
