Help, don’t hinder; Jayne Berresford; Beaver County Times; April 25, 2012.

This appears to be the third letter from Ms. Berresford.  The previous letters were entitled “Birth control not important issue” and “‘Our employees’ should live like us.”  I did not critique either letter.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Had anyone said to me that I would be following politics at all, even one year ago, I would’ve said you’re nuts.  I hate politics.  I do however like President Obama.  I find him to inteligent [sic] and sincere, and I truly believe he has the American people’s best interest at heart.

“What started me listening closer was a Republican whose name I don’t know saying something about the Republicans only job was to keep Barack Obama from getting anything done.  I wish I’d caught his name so I could tell him this ... If the American people chose Barack Obama to run this country and then elected him to office along with all the others in the people’s government, and we’re paying you between $174,000-$220,000 a year maybe you should start doing something to help instead of hindering our president.”

[RWC] Since Ms. Berresford could not remember which Republican allegedly said something like “the Republicans only job was to keep Barack Obama from getting anything done,” I’ll go out on a limb and guess what the unnamed Republican meant.  Success to a politician is getting his agenda implemented.  I suspect Ms. Berresford’s Republican said/meant he opposed President Obama’s leftist policies and would work to keep Mr. Obama from implementing those policies.  This is as it should be, just as we shouldn’t expect leftist politicians to help implement a Republican President’s policies.  I don’t know about others, but I vote for candidates I expect to represent me, not to help some other politician whose policies/positions I may or may not support.

“Republicans represent the interests of some of the wealthiest people in America.  I can’t help but get the feeling that many of them consider the middle and lower income citizens as something hot and steamy that they stepped in, and are now trying feverently [sic] to scrape off.”

[RWC] How original, the “rich Republicans” BS again.  The last I checked, the Clintons, Corzines, Emanuels, Kennedys, Kerrys, Lewises, Obamas, Pelosis, Reids, Rockefellers, Soroses, et cetera are all “rich” and all are Democrats.

I wonder how many of those “middle and lower income citizens” will attend a $40,000/plate Obama fundraising dinner planned by George Clooney.  Or the $25,000/plate fundraiser last October in St. Louis.  And so on.

“The person who can live well on $7.25 an hour should balance the federal budget.”

[RWC] As a reminder, Mr. Obama has not presented a balanced budget for consideration and the fiscal year 2013 budget he did present was defeated 414-0 in the House.  Mr. Obama’s 2012 budget was defeated 97-0 in the Senate last year.  When Mr. Obama can’t get even one Democrat to vote for his budget proposals, it’s hard to blame Republicans.
