Profits before people; Milton J. Potts; Beaver County Times; May 19, 2011.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“We have seen the profits made in the first quarter of the year by Exxon Mobil.

“How many thousands of dollars did it cost struggling working people?

“Does this advertisement make the CEOs’ pride swell after sharing their figures with the people who make the big profits possible by announcing it on television and in the newspapers?”

[RWC] I haven’t seen any advertisements bragging about oil company profits.  In any case, as publicly-owned businesses, they must report their earnings.

Should “CEOs’ pride swell” about their companies’ profitability?  Absolutely.  Oil companies are in business to provide income for their shareholders.
