McCain needs war to show leadership; Frank E. Bovalino; Beaver County Times; June 23, 2008.

Mr. Bovalino (a member of the Beaver Area School Board according to the Times) tends to write letters bashing Republicans and defending Democrats.  His more recent letters told us we’d miss state Sen. Gerald LaValle (D) (cofounder of the BIG slush fund), proposed “solutions” to alleged manmade global warming, and lobbied against E-ZPass for PA tool roads.  Mr. Bovalino (and his wife) is an elected municipal committee member of the Beaver County Democrat Committee.  Mr. Bovalino is treasurer for the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 47 Political Action Committee.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“As the presidential campaign season continues through the summer, the promises and attacks continue by both political parties.

“The one glaring fact that stands out is Sen. John McCain portrays himself as a war president.”

[RWC] If it’s a “glaring fact,” where’s the quote?

“With this in mind, the longer the Iraq war drags on, the longer the idea of a political need for McCain exists.  Without the war, McCain’s credentials as a leader diminish.  His credentials in most other areas of leadership are mediocre at best.”

[RWC] Does anyone believe Mr. Bovalino actually looked into Mr. McCain’s record of leadership “in most other areas?”  If he had, I’m sure Mr. Bovalino would have given us examples to support his assertion.

You’ll notice Mr. Bovalino didn’t provide the credentials of Barack Obama, whom I assume is Mr. Bovalino’s candidate.  If the trend holds that I noticed in the 2006 election, folks like Mr. Bovalino will tell us why the opposing candidate is the scum of the Earth but won’t make any effort to tell us why to vote for their candidate.

“The continuation of the war is important to his presidential election bid.  This is one fact that is constant and should have high consideration when voting in November.”

[RWC] Let me get this straight.  Folks like Mr. Bovalino blame a Republican president for a war (Our enemies clearly aren’t to blame.), yet he believes continuing the war is a campaign strategy?
