Betty Ann Bowser – 11/23/11

Why is Pennsylvania not thrilled with Obama?; Betty Ann Bowser; Beaver County Times; November 23, 2011.

Previous letters from Ms. Bowser I know about were “A lot to answer for,” “Are Tea Partiers malcontents?”, and “‘Would Jesus be a Republican?’” (1/20/09).  The last letter is no longer on the BCT website and I did not critique it because was a collection of unconnected sentences.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Republicans have pledged to make Obama a one-term president and to kill his jobs bill by not taxing the 1 percent oppulent [sic].”

[RWC] This letter is similar to a previous Bowser letter in that it’s mostly a litany of unconnected sentences.

The Obama “jobs bill” to which Ms. Bowser referred is/was actually a tax-rate-increase bill.  Even congressional Democrats wouldn’t vote for it.  If Mr. Obama’s previous “jobs bills” worked, why would we need more?

About 37% of all federal income tax revenue comes from Ms. Bowser’s “1 percent oppulent [sic]” with an average tax rate of 24%.  If that’s “not taxing,” what is?  Perhaps Ms. Bowser mistook “the 1 percent oppulent [sic]” for the bottom 50%.  The bottom 50% pays only about 2.3% of federal income tax revenue with an average tax rate of 1.8%.

“Both Democrats and Republicans have so many persuasions, maybe they are all one party.  A poll said 52 percent of people though Obama did not deserve to be re-elected.

“Some accomplishments: returning troops, health care for all and killing Osama bin Laden.”

[RWC] As for “returning troops,” President Obama followed the agreement negotiated by the Bush administration with the Iraqis.  Mr. Obama also increased troops in Afghanistan.

As for “health care for all,” most Americans want Obamacare repealed.  In the November 2011 election, Ohioans voted approximately 2:1 to oppose the individual mandate at the core of Obamacare.

As for “killing Osama bin Laden,” Mr. Obama no more killed Osama bin Laden than then-President George W. Bush captured Saddam Hussein.

“Lack of follow through and coordinating pertinent information caused 9/11 to happen.

“Maybe President Obama is not white enough for the whites or black enough for the blacks.  He is honest, intelligent, sports-oriented, positive, born in America, family man, respected by other countries, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, a Harvard Law School graduate -- so where’s the beef?”

[RWC] What is it with the lefty obsession with skin color?

For an “honest” guy, Mr. Obama sure lies a lot.  For example, Mr. Obama constantly lies about Republican proposals regarding the deficit, debt, healthcare, and on and on.

Who cares if Mr. Obama is “sports-oriented?”  So was Mr. Bush who, unlike Mr. Obama, can actually throw a baseball.

“[R]espected by other countries?”  Seriously?  Since when?  How about some examples?

For a “positive” guy, Mr. Obama sure does criticize Americans a lot, and let’s not forget his constant apologizing for the U.S.

I have to give Ms. Bowser credit for mentioning the Nobel Peace Prize.  Even most lefties recognize Mr. Obama did nothing to earn it.  Further, who would want a prize also awarded to Yasser Arafat?  The Nobel Peace Prize became a joke a long time ago.

As for Mr. Obama being “a Harvard Law School graduate,” who cares but does anyone think Mr. Bush being a Harvard Business School graduate meant anything to Ms. Bowser?

“The Republican candidates are more of the same except now the black candidate might get a pass on infidelity.  If he should be their final candidate, then what would happen?”

[RWC] “[T]he black candidate?”  It’s interesting Ms. Bowser distinguishes candidates by something as irrelevant as skin color.  For lefty readers, I believe “the black candidate” is Herman Cain, though it could be Mr. Obama.  You may recall skin color was a big issue during the 2008 Democrat primaries but not during the general election.  Except for Democrats like Ms. Bowser, skin color hasn’t been an issue for candidates seeking the 2012 Republican nomination.

“Carl [sic] Rove and the 1 percent oppulent [sic] Koch Brothers Industries have been fined several times for pollution and government violations.”

[RWC] What exactly does any of this have to do with anyone liking or not liking Mr. Obama’s policies?

In case you don’t know, the Koch (pronounced “coke”) brothers are the latest lefty boogeymen because they are wealthy and contribute primarily to conservative candidates and causes.  If the Koch brothers contributed primarily to lefty candidates and causes, as do wealthy lefties like Peter Lewis, George Soros, et al, they would be lefty heroes.  For example, USW CEO Leo Gerard recently wrote of “Democratic benefactor George Soros.”  Koch Industries generates about $100 billion in annual revenue and has about 67,000 employees.  For a business that size, having “been fined several times for pollution and government violations” is a pretty good record even if it were true.

“Our option is God is in control.”

[RWC] Huh?
