Virginia’s third senator; William Bubb; Beaver County Times; March 21, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“One thing occurred to me after reading Wednesday’s letter to the editor from Daryl Vogan concerning U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum (‘Santorum is right for state’).

“The writer listed a number of reasons why the senator is right for Pennsylvania.

“Without entering into a protracted debate, I would like to offer a reason to the contrary: Santorum and his family live in Virginia, not Pennsylvania.”

[RWC] I believe letters like this are a cheap shot.  Should serving as a senator require a person to live apart from his family for extended periods of time?  There is no way a senator could live at home and serve in the Senate, unless his home is already within driving distance of Washington, DC.  Mr. Santorum moved his family to a Washington, DC, suburb so they would not be separated most of the year. Even so, the Santorum family maintains a house in the Penn Hills school district, pays property taxes on the house, and pays the PA income tax.
