It’s about responsibility; David R. Busang; Beaver County Times; April 25, 2008.

Including this one, I’ve critiqued eight of Mr. Busang’s letters since 2003.  One of those letters praised the educational value of Times editorials (Yes, he was serious.), one bashed then-Sen. Santorum for voting the way Mr. Busang wanted him to vote, and another tried to exonerate Sen. Bob Casey, Jr., for his role in the 2005 PA payjacking.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If you purchase a car knowing you can’t afford it, should the taxpayers be responsible for paying your debt?

“If you willfully run up your credit card debt beyond your ability to repay it, should the taxpayers be responsible for paying it?

“Why then, if people purchase a house with a mortgage beyond their ability to pay now or in the future, should the taxpayers be responsible for paying their mortgage?”

[RWC] Excellent questions.  That said, does anyone want to bet Mr. Busang has no problem with the mortgage interest deduction on income taxes?  After all, the mortgage tax deduction means other taxpayers subsidize the debt of those paying mortgages.

“Why then, if banks and financial institutions aid and abet these same irresponsible borrowers, should the taxpayers be responsible for bailing out these same banks and financial institutions?

“Why is being accountable for individual or collective decisions someone else’s responsibility?”

[RWC] Though I agree with everything Mr. Busang wrote in this letter, this letter is enough to make your head explode.  Here’s why.

Read Mr. Busang’s letters and you can come to no other conclusion than he’s a very partisan Democrat, and a main plank in the Democrat platform is taking money from people who earn it and giving it to people who didn’t.  Why don’t those handouts bother Mr. Busang, but this one does?
