Experience is overrated; Nick Chopiak; Beaver County Times; May 13, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“In recent months, a great deal of emphasis has been placed on political experience or lack thereof.

“Look at the direction this so-called political experience has taken our country.  I encourage and challenge Americans to pick their favorite issue — the Iraq war, the economy, the price of gasoline, education costs, health care, etc. — and pick their favorite experienced politician.  Did the way he/she voted affect your issues?  We must ask ourselves if political experience gives us crony capitalism.”

[RWC] What is “crony capitalism?”

“It is important to point out that many of our experienced politicians on both sides of the aisle are serving time in prison for corruption, others are under indictment and some have been forced to resign.

“One of our greatest presidents was Abraham Lincoln.  He had limited experience in government and only served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives.”

[RWC] I’ll go out on a limb and guess that Mr. Chopiak is an Obama supporter.  Here’s why I say that.

First, three months ago, Mr. Chopiak wrote a letter complaining that politicians “will not give socialized medicine to you.”  Then, despite the fact both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton unveiled plans for the socialized healthcare Mr. Chopiak apparently wanted, Mr. Chopiak expressed displeasure only with Mrs. Clinton.

Second, this letter focuses on how “experience” is overrated.  Even though neither Mrs. Clinton nor Mr. Obama has any relevant experience, Mrs. Clinton’s campaign has emphasized her mythical experience advantage over Mr. Obama.  If Mr. Obama had any relevant experience – at least experience relevant to a leftist – I’d be willing to bet this letter would have been touting the value of experience.

Finally, Obamists seem to have an uncontrollable urge to compare Mr. Obama to Abraham Lincoln.
