Cuban missile deja vu; Dan Cogley; Beaver County Times; August 28, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“U.S. missiles in Poland?

“What would we do if Russia put missiles in Cuba?

“Didn’t that already happen?”

[RWC] The 10 U.S. missiles are interceptors to shoot down incoming (to Europe) offensive missiles.  The USSR missiles in Cuba in the early 1960s were nuclear offensive missiles targeted at the U.S. for which there were only two defenses, not allowing them in Cuba in the first place or a first strike by the U.S.

While I can understand Russia blustering about the missile interceptors in Poland, at best (A 100% hit rate is unlikely.) the 10 interceptors could shoot down only 10 Russian missiles, a very small fraction of Russia’s arsenal.  With only 10 interceptors, it’s fairly clear the intended targets are missiles from the Middle East.
