Lonzie Cox – 2/18/07

A big void; Lonzie Cox, Jr.; Beaver County Times; February 18, 2007.  I am not related to Mr. Cox.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The death of Molly Ivins leaves a big vacancy in the lineup of writers who told the truth about President G.W. Bush.

“Ivins was informative to read as she, being from Texas, warned us that Bush was not presidential material.  She thought he was incompetent.”

[RWC] For those of you not familiar with Ms. Ivins, she was a “hair on fire” liberal opinion writer.  Just as any other opinion columnist, her pieces were simply the for-pay version of letters to the editor.  I would say they were the same as editorials, but editorial authors don’t have the guts to sign their work.

What “big vacancy?”  Seriously, name a single liberal writer who didn’t claim Mr. Bush was “incompetent” even before they could spell his name?  All they had to know was Mr. Bush was a Republican.  By liberal definition, you are “incompetent” and “not presidential material” if you’re a Republican, even a relatively liberal Republican like President Bush.

If you’ve read Mr. Cox’s letters, can you imagine his reaction if someone wrote a letter about Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, et cetera and claimed they were “informative?”  Seriously, his head would explode. <g>

“But his Iraq war and threat of starting another war on Iran show that he’s lost track of reality, too.”

[RWC] Of all the people of true import who died recently, and Mr. Cox chose to mourn a Bush bashing opinion writer.  And Mr. Cox claims President Bush has “lost track of reality?”
