Lonzie Cox, Jr. – 12/28/10

President shouldn’t cooperate with foes; Lonzie Cox, Jr.; Beaver County Times; December 28, 2010.  I am not related to Mr. Cox.  At the time I wrote this critique, this letter appeared only in the Times print edition.

Most of Mr. Cox’s at least 60 letters since 2004 are tinged with race, and all take leftist positions.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Mohandas Gandhi once said, ‘Non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as cooperation with good.’

“President Barack Obama still seeks bipartisanship in dealing with Republicans.  Time and time again, Republican leadership (including Limbaugh and Beck) has made it clear they hate the present both personally and professionally and they want him to fail.”

[RWC] I’ll go out on a limb and guess Mr. Cox’s definition of bipartisanship is for Republicans to eschew their principles and simply vote for leftist legislation without uttering a peep.  In any case, when did Mr. Obama “seek bipartisanship in dealing with Republicans?”  Mr. Obama is a devoted leftist who couldn’t care less about what those on the right think.

As for claiming “Republican leadership” hates Mr. Obama, keep in mind lefties like Mr. Cox define any opposition to leftist positions as hate speech.  Mr. Cox didn’t seem to be concerned about “hate” when he and his fellow travelers said far worse things about then-President George W. Bush.

“Obama should acknowledge that the right-wing refusal to go along with any Democratic proposals will be more acutely dangerous when Republicans control the House of Representatives.  They’ll simply push their evil agenda which is based solely on war, hate, racism, more wealth for the wealthy and poverty for working people.”

[RWC] Why on Earth would “the right-wing” “go along with … Democratic proposals” based on leftist policies/programs?  If the voters wanted Democrats in those seats they would have voted for Democrats.  Republicans who would go along with leftist proposals are in the wrong party.

As for the “evil agenda which is based solely on war, hate, racism …” comment, this is the same old BS lefties drag out when they know they can’t debate an issue using facts, history, and logic.  You’ll note Mr. Cox didn’t provide any specific examples.

“The president should abandon his goal of cooperating with his sworn enemies because now he may be seen as collaborating with Republican extremists in the destruction of America’s middle and working classes.”

[RWC] Since when is Mr. Obama’s “goal … cooperating with his sworn enemies?”  Was it when Mr. Obama told his opposition to shut up and “get out of the way” or when he said Republicans “gotta sit in back?”

Regarding “working classes,” keep in mind lefties tend to have a different definition than most of us.  In an old comment on the Times website, a local lefty leader described his definition of “working classes” thusly: “If someone else [signs your paycheck], you’re in the working class.”  I suspect most business owners - large or small - (who pay SS and Medicare taxes just as the rest of us) would be surprised to learn they aren’t in the “working classes.”

You’ll note Mr. Cox didn’t define “Republican extremists” or tell us how they were going to destroy “America’s middle and working classes.”  If Mr. Cox believes today’s elected Republicans are “extremists,” I believe it says more about him than his so-called “Republican extremists.”

“A late friend of mine once said, ‘When you find a fool, bump his head,’ meaning that stupid people who vote or campaign against their own interests deserve to be punished severely, and the Republican majority will punish the tea baggers for being such fools.”

[RWC] If Mr. Cox believes voting or campaigning for leftists and their policies is in his interest, perhaps he needs someone to “bump his head.”

It’s not a Lonzie Cox letter without name-calling.  I was worried a bit because Mr. Cox usually doesn’t wait for the last sentence.
