Corbett tardy in Sandusky scandal; Lonzie Cox, Jr.; Beaver County Times; July 12, 2012.  I am not related to Mr. Cox.

Most of Mr. Cox’s at least 77 letters since 2004 are tinged with race, and all take leftist positions.  The most recent previous Cox letter I critiqued was “Why all the gnashing of teeth?”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Paterno is gone.  Sandusky is guilty.  His victims survive somehow and the taxpayers pay.  Still, injustice lurks in the potential for Tom Corbett to escape punishment for his obvious negligence in Sandusky’s abuse of children.”

[RWC] Leave it to Mr. Cox to inject politics into this story.  As soon as Mr. Cox can figure out a way to make it about skin color, we’ll see another letter.

“Newsweek magazine’s November 2011 coverage of the scandal tells a lot about the activities and neglect from then Attorney General, now Gov. Corbett.

“The investigation of complaints against Jerry Sandusky began in 2009, according to Newsweek.  The magazine states Corbett could have prevented further mistreatment of boys by arresting Sandusky much earlier.  Corbett, by then running for governor, insisted on a grand jury report that Newsweek says was unnecessary even as candidate Corbett received more than $200,000 from Penn State trustees.  Then, as governor, Corbett gutted the education budget of former Gov. Ed Rendell, but authorized a $3 million grant to Sandusky’s Second Mile organization.”

[RWC] The Newsweek article to which Mr. Cox refers is not a news piece.  “Penn State’s New Villain: Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett” (11/21/11) is an opinion piece by a sports opinion writer.

Mr. Cox’s definition of “Corbett gut[ting] the education budget of former Gov. Ed Rendell” is to increase education spending by $183 million (1.8%).

As for the “$3 million grant to Sandusky’s Second Mile organization,” here’s a story in The Patriot-News.

“Jerry Sandusky will be punished I’m sure.  Justice, however, must include some sanctions against Corbett, who has accelerated the implementation of such mindless right-wing policies as ‘stand your ground, shoot first gun laws,’ Teabagger party influence and extreme means of voter suppression to limit voting rights for large segments of our states [sic] electorate.  Indict and impeach Corbett.”

[RWC] Wow, Mr. Cox got to the last paragraph before he got into name-calling; that could be a record for him!

FYI, “extreme means of voter suppression to limit voting rights for large segments of our states [sic] electorate” is Mr. Cox’s view of requiring photo ID to vote.

Finally, while Mr. Cox feigns outrage about “the implementation of such mindless right-wing policies as ‘stand your ground, shoot first gun laws,’” we’ve yet to hear from him about the Obama administration’s “Operation Fast and Furious” (F&F).  Regardless of its stated intention, F&F allowed Mexican drug gangs to purchase weapons in the U.S. and take them back to Mexico.  One of those weapons was used to murder U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry while on patrol in Arizona.
