Supreme Court nominee raises concern for many; Lonzie Cox, Jr. (LC); Beaver County Times; February 12, 2017.  Though my friends have fun at my expense by referring to him as my “Cousin Lonzie,” I am not related to Mr. Cox.

Most of Mr. Cox’s at least 100 letters since 2004 are tinged with race, and all take leftist positions.  The most recent previous Cox letter I critiqued was “President endures ongoing hatred from his critics”  “State Supreme Court needs Woodruff.”  You can find more Cox letters in the archives (2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004).

When it comes to race issues, Mr. Cox is pretty tolerant if you share his leftist ideology.  For example, Mr. Cox had no problem with the late-Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former KKK officer, but referred to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as an “Uncle Tom.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“So the Donald Trump regime has chosen its right-wing ultra-conservative Supreme Court nominee.”

[RWC] Other than not sharing LC’s ideological and political positions, what are “ultra” and “hyper” conservatives?

“Supreme Court justices are more important to some than they are to others; most of them are technically qualified, having been trained in law somewhere or other.  That’s obvious, but what is needed are judges who can think and reason beyond their own personal prejudices.”

[RWC] There’s no pleasing LC.  Despite Chief Justice John Roberts saving Obamacare not once, but twice, LC refers to Mr. Roberts as “the nefarious Chief Justice.”

“Up until the 1954 decision desegregating the public schools, Supreme Court justices were more often than not openly hostile to black Americans.  Chief Justice Earl Warren made all the difference when Brown vs. Board of Education was decided.  Prior to Brown, most decisions were intended to damage and or ignore black life in America.

“In the last third of the 1800s, Congress enacted laws and amendments to bring post-slavery blacks closer to first-class citizenship.  The Supreme Court, made up mostly of Republicans after Abraham Lincoln’s death, consistently declared each new measure to be unconstitutional.  Those decisions, by what was assumed to be friendly courts, included the infamous Plessy vs. Ferguson ruling, which resulted in the legalization -- and state and federal enforcement of -- what became known as the Jim Crow laws of the 1900s.”

[RWC] I’m sure a lot of folks think racism was behind the SC ruling against parts of the Civil Rights Act of 1875 (CRA-1875).  I’m not a mind-reader, but the decision was correct.

“Friendly courts?” If LC really believes “what is needed are judges who can think and reason beyond their own personal prejudices,” shouldn’t LC oppose “friendly courts?”

LC needs to cite specific positions and rulings of Mr. Gorsuch he doesn’t like.  LC also needs to detail specific positions that make someone a “so-called hyper conservative.”

Homer Plessy was a RepublicanThe Supreme Court for “Plessy v. Ferguson” (PvF) consisted of four Democrats and five Republicans; the Chief Justice was a Democrat.  Regarding PvF specifically, all four Democrats and three of the Republicans were in the majority.  The lone dissenter was a Republican.  The fifth Republican did not participate because he was not present at the hearing due to the death of his daughter.

“That’s why we citizens are so concerned now about Trump and his regime polluting the court with so-called hyper conservatives like Neil Gorsuch, and placing in his cabinet outright bigots like Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Trump’s new attorney general.  Yikes.”

[RWC] LC needs to cite specific positions and rulings of Mr. Gorsuch he doesn’t like.  LC also needs to detail specific positions that make someone a “so-called hyper conservative.”

AG Jeff Sessions is an “outright bigot?”  On what basis?  I covered this topic in my review of “We see no signs of ‘draining the swamp.’”

As for so-called “outright bigots,” LC had no problem with the late-Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former KKK officer, as long as he sided with the left and remained alive.

What’s really “yikes!” is LC appears to think he speaks for “we citizens.”
