Let’s give credit to bus service; Lynne DeFelice; Beaver County Times; February 27, 2009.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I am writing in the hope that people will understand how important mass transit services are.”

[RWC] Keep alert for what’s missing as you read this letter.

“I am not a driver, so I depend on the Beaver County Transit Authority to take me back and forth to work.  I’ve been riding the bus for three years, and if it wasn’t for the BCTA, I wouldn’t have a job.  I am very grateful for this service.

“I work different shifts and have had different drivers, all BCTA employees, and I’m grateful to them, too, for getting us safely to our destinations.

“In my three years of riding the bus, one driver in particular, Joyce, stands out.  She has been my driver for two years, twice a day, in good and bad weather, and I’ve seen how cautious and alert she is.

“She always greets everyone with a ‘Good morning’ and ‘Have a good day.’  People always respond to niceness.

“When I first started riding the bus, I was apprehensive — pitch dark at 5:30 a.m. and a strange driver.

“Now that I’ve known her five days a week for two years, I have fallen asleep and she’d alert me it was time for work.  She’s made a good service even better.”

[RWC] What’s missing?  Ms. DeFelice never thanked we taxpayers who subsidize her transportation while we also pay for our own transportation completely out of our own pockets.
