Stevan Drobac, Jr. – 11/2/06

This page was last updated on November 15, 2006.

Republicans vs. Democrats; Steve Drobac; Beaver County Times; November 2, 2006.

As a reminder, Mr. Drobac was the Democrat nominee in the 4th Congressional District in 2002 and 2004 and ran against Rep. Melissa Hart both years.

11/15/06 -    I just found Mr. Drobac is once again active on the Internet at the New Deal Democrats (NDD) website.  I used to check in on this website after its original creation (early 2005 if I recall correctly), but it was dormant for so long it fell off my “radar screen.”  Just by chance I ran across the website this morning and found it had been updated.  I have no idea when Mr. Drobac resumed updating the site, though it was clearly sometime before the election.

If I had known before the election the website was active again, I would have written a detailed critique.  It would be a waste of time to do so now for a few reasons.  First, the election is over.  Second, though reflecting Mr. Drobac’s unique perspective, most of the website is a recitation of Democrat/liberal talking points I’ve addressed in numerous critiques of editorials and letters over the last couple of years.  Third, though Mr. Drobac asserts, “The Republican Party philosophy, regardless of element, use whatever destructive means is necessary to demoralize the Democratic Party, its staff, elected officials & all Democratic candidates,” that doesn’t stop Mr. Drobac himself from liberal use of name-calling.  Of course, it’s possible Mr. Drobac considers descriptions like “dicey,” “spicy,” “sneaky,” “squeaky,” “liar,” “thief,” “phony no good for nothing liar,” et cetera to be complimentary.

Nevertheless, as I do all liberal websites, I recommend you visit the NDD website.  As long as you do so while wearing your “thinking cap,” keeping current on the content of Democrat/liberal websites gives you a much better view into the minds of liberals than I could ever hope to do by my writing alone.  I believe you will find the commentary, logic, and purported factual information on the NDD website to be of the same quality as Mr. Drobac’s former campaign websites.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Being a true democrat, one who strongly believes a democracy is a government by the people, of the people, but, most important, for the people, was the most important reason why I registered as a Democrat when I was 18 years of age.”

[RWC] The U.S. is a republic, not a democracy.

“The Republican Party philosophy - which, regardless of element, uses whatever destructive means is necessary to demoralize the Democratic Party, its staff, elected officials and all Democratic candidates - is a means that continues to be very productive and beneficial to the GOP.

“The Republicans, who use the power of Christian and moral beliefs for dominance, thrive on Christianity, using abortion and stem-cell issues as a highly tainted offense against Christian beliefs.”

[RWC] What’s wrong with opposition to abortion?  While some individuals are exceptions to the rule, conservatives oppose abortion while liberals support abortion.

Regarding stem cell research, Mr. Drobac doesn’t want to distinguish between embryonic stem cell research and the other forms of stem cell research (adult and umbilical cord blood).  Conservatives have a problem with embryonic stem cell research for the same reason they have a problem with abortion.  In both cases, a human life is sacrificed.

“But how can Republican leaders and party members justify endorsing Republican gay men/women into office as fellow colleagues, a clear violation of Christian beliefs?”

[RWC] Remember, all this comes from a person whose party sets up camp in black Christian churches at election time.  Using Mr. Drobac’s tactic, how can Democrat leaders and party members justify supporting abortion when it is a clear violation of Christian beliefs?

“How can they promote Christianity on one hand, while on the second hand they’re promoting same-sex Republican colleagues?”

[RWC] What are “same-sex Republican colleagues?”  Did Mr. Drobac mean to write “homosexual Republican colleagues?”  Here’s Mr. Drobac’s problem.  He wants to portray Republicans as anti-homosexual, but he can’t.  On the other hand, the lack of a factual foundation hasn’t stopped Mr. Drobac in the past.  I demonstrated that in my critiques of his campaign positions.

“Then there is Rush Limbaugh, the drug-toting, Republican radio DJ, instilling false morality with listeners to help propagate the Republicans’ false Christian and moral beliefs.”

[RWC] Wow, Mr. Drobac sure packs a lot of personal attack in one sentence!  Not only is Limbaugh a “drug-toting Republican radio DJ,” but somehow Mr. Drobac knows the “Christian and moral beliefs” of Republicans are false.

“Limbaugh, charged with a felony drug count, served no time because white-collar favoritism was committed by Republican leaders guaranteeing Limbaugh no jail time and a fast return to air time.  What a disgrace.”

[RWC] Nice try, but the Florida DA who pursued the Limbaugh case was a Democrat.

As a reminder, Limbaugh became addicted to prescription painkillers either because of back pain or surgery performed to correct a back problem.  The only charge made against Limbaugh was that he engaged in “doctor shopping” to obtain additional painkiller prescriptions.  In practice, these cases are rarely prosecuted.  After two+ years of pursuing the case, I believe it’s safe to assume the Democrat DA would have prosecuted the case if he thought he had a remote chance of winning.

I wonder why Mr. Drobac failed to mention the case of Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI).  As a reminder, Mr. Kennedy crashed his car into a barrier at the Capitol Building at about 2:45 a.m. on May 4, 2006.  Despite the fact Mr. Kennedy exhibited disorientation akin to being drunk and/or under the influence of drugs, Capitol police whisked him away.  Mr. Kennedy immediately ran off to drug rehab for a month and that was the end of it.

“Are Republicans milking Christianity to gain the average voters support?  Apparently so.”

[RWC] Damn those evil Republicans!  Come on, Mr. Drobac, get real.
