Bush ignores needs of parents; Vivienne R. Finch; Beaver County Times; March 13, 2005.

This letter is little more than an attempt to justify communism/socialism.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Today, President Bush wants to help kids.

“Perhaps the president needs to take Ritalin, because he can’t seem to focus on anything for very long.”

[RWC] How grown up.  You can tell where a letter is going when it starts off with the equivalent of name-calling.

“Taking better care of our children and our parents does need to be a priority for all of us.  But first, Mr. Bush and his administration need to take care of our kids’ parents.”

[RWC] In summary, Ms. Finch believes government should take care of all of us.  This is communism/socialism, pure and simple, and it worked so well in Cuba, East Germany, the Soviet Union, et cetera.

“To start, they need to quit sending our kids’ moms and dads to other countries to get hurt and killed in poorly planned, lingering wars.”

[RWC] I guess Ms. Finch believes it’s better for “our kids’ moms and dads” to “get hurt and killed” on U.S. soil as in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were so poorly planned that both countries have had free elections for the first time in their histories.

“They need to quit sending their parents’ jobs to other countries.”

[RWC] The only time government sends jobs to other countries is when it forces unnecessary costs and regulations on business.  These are the very costs and regulations I suspect Ms. Finch supports.

“How can you help children if their parents don’t have decent jobs and the kids don’t have warm homes and food to eat?”

[RWC] To understand the definition of “poor,” you should read Understanding Poverty in America by The Heritage Foundation.

“How can parents take care of their children when they’re working 80 hours a week in low-paying jobs that don’t offer any health or pension benefits?”

[RWC] At the risk of sounding insensitive, if you can’t afford children, you should not have children.  Building a family is not an entitlement; it is an individual responsibility.

“Sick, depressed, tired parents who can’t get medical care when they need it don’t make good parents.  If anything, this situation for the struggling poor and middle class is a ripe environment for child abuse.”

[RWC] Ms. Finch appears to believe it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to pay for healthcare.

“We need to clean up the street drugs and the crime in this country so our children can feel safe in this world.  This is not going to happen if our police forces keep getting cut back to almost nothing.”

[RWC] What does this have to do with President Bush or any other president?  Police departments are a local responsibility.

“And it’s not going to happen as long as selling drugs and crime is a better option than working for a living.”

[RWC] This is liberal BS.  If you have the “initiative” to be a criminal, you can find a job.  Poverty is not and never has been an excuse for being a criminal.

“We need to take better care of our environment so our children and their children have clean air and water and are not wading through plastic bottles, disposable diapers and chemical waste.”

[RWC] Ms. Finch ignores the fact that our air and water have been getting cleaner for decades.  Note that Ms. Finch doesn’t tell us where children are “wading through plastic bottles, disposable diapers and chemical waste.”

“I agree, President Bush, we do need to help kids.  But you can’t do this by ignoring the needs of their parents and grandparents.”

[RWC] Despite the content of this letter, I suspect Ms. Finch would be offended if I referred to her positions as communist/socialist.
