Situation in Iraq is horrendous; Vivienne R. Finch; Beaver County Times; December 15, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I have a few unrelated thoughts I would like to share.

“I would like to comment on something letter writer Thomas Finch wrote in ‘Democrats vs. Republicans’ because I think it is an important point.  He said, ‘War is the worst thing we can do to the human family, and it should be avoided whenever possible.’

“I don’t know what the Bush administration’s hope for Iraq is.  I don’t think anyone thought about what they hoped to accomplish with this horrible war before they started dropping bombs there.  So far, there’s been death, bloodshed and mutilation, and not much else.  That is horrendous.”

[RWC] If Ms. Finch truly believes what she wrote, I have to assume she gets her news from places like MoveOn.org, et cetera.  As just one example of “not much else” happening, even the mainstream media reports the December 15th Iraqi election had approximately a 70% turnout.  This includes heavy voting by the Sunnis who boycotted the previous elections this year.

“I’ve agreed with most of what Mr. Finch has written this year.  Though I don’t know him, he appears to have heart, intelligence, passion and seems to be in touch with what people need. I would certainly support any interest he might have to run for state representative should he be inclined.  I certainly think we need some changes in Harrisburg.”

[RWC] If you’ve read the letters from Ms. Finch and Mr. Finch over the last year, you probably aren’t surprised Ms. Finch “agreed with most of what Mr. Finch has written this year.”  Both writers pen letters full of name-calling and devoid of fact.

“Also, I consider myself to be a Christian.  I would not like to see a Buddha sitting in front of the courthouse.  So, people, give this Nativity issue a rest.”

[RWC] What would be wrong with a Buddha in front of the courthouse to celebrate a prominent Buddhist holyday?
