Birthers are un-American; John Fray; Beaver County Times; May 1, 2011.

The only previous letters from Mr. Fray of which I’m aware are here and here.  A Google search indicates Mr. Fray appears to be a lawyer in Ellwood City.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“For those of us born in the United States, our standard-issue birth certificate from the state in which we were born represents our citizenship papers.  It is practically impossible to obtain a ‘long-form’ birth certificate.”

[RWC] If this is true, very few folks in Montgomery County, PA, can get a passport.  According to the Montgomery County website, “Children 15 and under submitting an expired Passport or certificate of citizenship as their citizenship document also must submit a long form birth certificate providing child’s name, date and place of birth, and the names of the parents.”

For the record, I’m not a so-called “birther.”

“In 2008, Barack Obama released his standard-issue birth certificate from the state of Hawaii.  Despite the fact that there was not one shred of evidence to suggest that it was a forgery, its authenticity was challenged by the birthers.

“Recently, in a nearly unprecedented action, the state of Hawaii issued the long form to Obama, who released it to the media a few days ago.  Thereafter, some powerful Republican voices such as Andrew Card said that the long form should have been released years ago.”

[RWC] Is getting a “‘long-form’ birth certificate … a nearly unprecedented action?”  Again, this would mean very few folks in Montgomery County, PA, could get a passport.

“No, the long form should not have been released in 2008, or now, or ever.

“What we now have is the dangerous precedent wherein a fringe group of reality deniers led by a wealthy bully can put anyone they do not like for reasons of race, creed, color, etc., to the impossible test of producing a long-form birth certificate or else risk having their citizenship rights nullified.”

[RWC] Mr. Fray appears to be one of those guys who wants us to believe anyone who opposes Mr. Obama does so “for reasons of race, creed, color, etc.”

I don’t recall Mr. Fray complaining when Democrat operatives constantly pressed then-President George W. Bush to release every document under the Sun looking for a gotcha, far more than what is being asked of Mr. Obama.  I also don’t recall Mr. Fray complaining when Dan Rather was caught using forged documents in his jihad against Mr. Bush.

“I say ‘out’ with the Republican Party that spawned this danger and vote Democrat.”

[RWC] Are we to believe Mr. Fray doesn’t know supporters of Hillary Clinton started all of this during the Democrat 2008 primary campaign?

By the way, why doesn’t Mr. Fray complain about the treatment of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) received?  You may recall some people claimed Mr. McCain was ineligible for office because he was born on a U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone while his father was stationed there.  Taking the challenge seriously, the Democrat-majority Senate unanimously passed a non-binding resolution declaring Mr. McCain to be a “natural born Citizen” of the U.S.
