Middle class is crumbling; Jim Frederick; Beaver County Times; October 21, 2004.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Sunday’s article ‘Higher heating bills aren’t expected to have major impact on economy’ truly misses the boat for Beaver County residents.

“The author may not consider a projected 28 percent increase in heating costs to be a major impact; however, at my home and the households of my friends and neighbors, a 28 percent increase is very significant.

“Middle-class families have been on the receiving end of blow after blow to our household budgets.

“This is one more example of the friends of the White House raking in huge profits while the middle-class foundation of our country crumbles.”

[RWC] Did you notice the recent Democrat focus on the so-called middle class?  Does Mr. Frederick want us to believe energy prices have no effect on the “lower” and “upper” classes?

“The president has been fiddling while Rome has burned for almost four years.”

[RWC] What does Mr. Frederick expect any president to do to control the price of energy, especially over the short term (5 – 10 years)?  For the record, Senate Democrats have been filibustering President Bush’s energy bill since at least 2002.  There are enough votes to pass the bill, but not enough – 60 votes are required – to kill the filibuster.

“Let’s send the vacationing president on a permanent vacation on Nov. 2.”

[RWC] Let’s not.
