Palin’s crowds don’t mean all that much; Norma Furness; Beaver County Times; November 25, 2008.

When I critiqued a couple of her letters in September, Ms. Furness claimed “Political use of prayer backfires” and told us “Bush tries to sell another tall tale.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I am constantly amused at the right-wing radio jocks’ lament that Sarah Palin did not win the office of the vice president in the latest election.”

[RWC] Yet another lefty still worried about Gov. Palin despite the fact she and Mr. McCain lost the election.

I’m glad something amuses Ms. Furness.  So many lefties I encounter are in a constant state of agitation, depression, et cetera.

“According to them, she is the savior of the Republican Party and could be/should be our next president simply because she drew great crowds of people.”

[RWC] Actually, many on the right like Gov. Palin not because of the crowds, but because she appears to be a conservative and proud of it.  That’s actually what draws the crowds.  I like most of what I heard from Gov. Palin, though there was some populism mixed in I wasn’t fond of.  Personally, I’m waiting to see how well Gov. Palin continues to lead Alaska.  Actually, Ms. Furness should probably be more worried about Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana.  Gov. Jindal is a young, solid conservative with more experience at the federal level.

“If I remember correctly, the Bearded Lady, the Elephant Man and Tom Thumb drew great crowds, too.”

[RWC] So did Barack Obama.  Why would Ms. Furness compare our President-elect to “the Bearded Lady, the Elephant Man and Tom Thumb?”  This sounds like hate speech to me. <g>

For his runoff election, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) asked Gov. Palin to campaign for him.  Sen. Chambliss defeated his Democrat candidate with 57% of the vote.  Sen. Chambliss said of Gov. Palin, “I can’t overstate the impact she had down here.”  This is why folks like Ms. Furness fear Gov. Palin.

“I also noticed that at U.S. Sen. John McCain’s last meeting with President-elect Barack Obama, he was not wearing a flag pin whereas Obama was.  Was he sending us a message?”

[RWC] Huh?

“What say you, my fellow Americans?”
