Don’t fall for sales pitch; Serena Gaefke; Beaver County Times; August 7, 2011.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As a resident of in the heart of an area targeted for drilling, I am concerned about the environmental impact.

“I was prepared to sign and looking forward to my $7,500.  And if it hadn’t been for my new neighbor who just had a gut feeling that this was not a good idea, I would have gone ahead and been none the wiser.

“Instead, I did more research, and what I found was concerning -- all kinds of evidence implicating this company in well water contamination in April.

“Sure, accidents happen, but what really got to me was the absolute secrecy regarding the chemicals used in the hydraulic fracturing process.  In two cases, people’s lives were on the line because the company refused to disclose the contaminating chemicals.

“In the end, I decided that while natural gas drillers may continue regardless of my opinion, I couldn’t in good conscience profit from the pollution of the environment.”

[RWC] The only point of this critique is to point out at least some of Mrs. Gaefke’s “more research” was watching the movie GaslandOn Amazon.com, Mrs. Gaefke gave Gasland a five-star rating.  You can find “Debunking Gasland” here and Gasland’s rebuttal here.
