Political clout a blessing; Pat Geho; Beaver County Times; September 2, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“All politics is local, but political influence is paramount in getting things accomplished.  Through his leadership position as Republican Conference chairman, the third-ranking leadership position in the U.S. Senate, Rick Santorum, exhibited his substantial clout by successfully lobbying the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) to save the 911th Air Force Reserve Base at Pittsburgh International Airport from closure.  Accolades are also due to Congressman Tim Murphy and Congresswoman Melissa Hart for their tireless work to keep family sustaining jobs in their respective districts.

“Although it appears a number of aircraft will be sent to Pope Air Force Base, the base will begin its new mission of regional readiness to improve our nation’s homeland defense.  The base will partner with Pittsburgh’s outstanding medical and research community to achieve its new goals.  This partnership will provide an opportunity to further showcase our regional assets on a national level.  The gloomy outlook for the 911th base has been replaced with a bright future of new opportunity and challenges.

“Sen. Santorum has proven his influence on the national level and has made a difference for us on the local level.”

[RWC] This is nothing but a self-serving press release from the Beaver County GOP.  The Times didn’t note Mr. Geho is Executive Director of the Republican Committee of Beaver County.
