How about sticking to one standard?; Nancy Gorski; Beaver County Times; May 7, 2009.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Recently, two letters appeared concerning President Barack Obama’s opposition to water-boarding.

“One letter writer (‘Obama’s double standard on abortion,’ Friday) saw the ‘irony in Obama’s attitude toward these terrorists versus his attitude toward the unborn child and infants who survive abortions.’  The writer assumed that all who were victims of water-boarding were terrorists.”

[RWC] “The writer assumed …”  Ms. Gorski, that’s what’s been reported.

“In response, the next writer (‘Let’s talk about double standards,’ Tuesday) assumed that many ‘anti-abortionists who are so appalled at the thought of aborting an unborn child have no problem torturing live people.’”

[RWC] Mr. Belcastro’s mean-spirited attack was not remotely equivalent to what Mr. McClain wrote.

“May I please submit that beating and forcing water up a person’s nose or extracting an infant’s brain or fracturing its skull are both forms of torture and such practices should be halted immediately.”

[RWC] Just as Mr. Belcastro, Ms. Gorski attempts to draw a moral equivalence between killing an innocent unborn child for nothing other than convenience with “torturing” terrorists to gain information that could save lives.

Please read my critiques of “Let’s talk about double standards” and “No excuse can justify torture” for more on this topic.
