Bernie Hall – 3/4/09

Restore fairness in organizing; Bernie Hall; Beaver County Times; March 4, 2009.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Finally, new labor law is being considered in Washington, D.C., that would benefit the working class.”

[RWC] This letter reads like someone working from a list of labor union management talking points.

“The Employee Free Choice Act is a commonsense law that is overdue.  For too long, workers’ rights to organize have been ignored and abused by corporate America.  This law would give workers the ability to select how they would choose to organize or not.”

[RWC] Note Mr. Hall doesn’t present any proof to support his comments.

“It would also make employers bargain in good faith with the employees’ union and come to terms on a first contract within a reasonable amount of time.

“Currently, employers can drag the bargaining process out for well over a year in order to deny the workers’ right to collectively bargain.

“Every working person should take the time to urge his or her representative and senators to support this bill.  Whether you want to organize or not, it should be your right to make that decision and not your employer’s.”

[RWC] Please read my critique of “Bill makes it easier to form a union” for the remainder of my comments.
