Translating Bush; Ralph J. Hegner; Beaver County Times; November 8, 2004.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“What President Bush said: ‘I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it.’

“What he means: ‘I incurred debts in the campaign, political debts, and now I intend to repay them.’”

[RWC] Of the two candidates, President Bush was the only one to present consistent positions throughout the campaign yet Mr. Hegner feels he needs to “translate.”  Mr. Hegner also appears to have missed that President Bush followed through on most of his positions during the 2000 campaign.  That said, we incur “debts” no matter what we do.  If John Kerry had won, does anyone believe Mr. Hegner would have noted Kerry had a debt to pay to George Soros who spent in excess of $12 million to defeat President Bush?
