God’s will transcends politics; Rev. Douglas A. Hill; Beaver County Times; November 9, 2004.

In summary, the author states the obvious.  That is, God is not associated with any political belief system.

Below is a critique of the subject letter only for the portion in which Mr. Hill cites definitions of conservatism and liberalism.

“Also, to throw ‘God’s will’ into the election process implies that anyone who voted against Bush stands necessarily in opposition to God, i.e. God is a conservative Republican while liberal Democrats are the devil.

“Webster defines ‘conservatism’ as ‘a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, preferring gradual development to abrupt change.’

“Webster defines ‘liberalism’ as ‘a movement in modern Protestantism emphasizing intellectual liberty and the spiritual and ethical content of Christianity.’

“Notice that Webster connects being Christian with being liberal, not conservative.  When did the shift happen that many Americans believe that ‘liberal’ and ‘Christian’ are diametrically opposed classifications?”

[RWC] Relying on any dictionary to define conservatism and liberalism is a mistake given the pervasiveness of liberalspeak.  These definitions may have been correct at one time, but they are no more.  See my pages on conservatism and liberalism for more relevant descriptions of these political philosophies.  Reading these pages will allow you to answer Mr. Hill’s question, “When did the shift happen that many Americans believe that ‘liberal’ and ‘Christian’ are diametrically opposed classifications?”

It’s also important to remember its rank and file members do not guide the agenda of the Democrat party.  Those who form the direction of the Democrat party are full-blown socialists and Marxists.  Folks like Mr. Hill aren’t consulted for direction, people like Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore, and George Soros are.
