Casey came off as a numbskull; Peter Homitz; Beaver County Times; October 23, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I, too, watched the second senatorial debate between Bob Casey and Rick Santorum.

Instead of castigating Santorum for wanting to have his children near him and his work, a la Hillary Clinton’s ‘it takes a village,’ Casey should have congratulated him.  Santorum has a home in Pennsylvania that he bought and pays taxes on.

“As a nonpartisan Democrat, I saw Casey looking like a mind-numb numbskull hardly able to utter two coherent sentences.  He was the epitome of galimatias.”

[RWC] Having read Mr. Homitz’s letters for the last couple of years, I have a hard time accepting his claim to be “a nonpartisan Democrat” any more than I accept that Messrs. Hum and Reese are really Republicans.

For someone who likes to use uncommon words – and there’s nothing wrong with that, Mr. Homitz has no problem getting into simple name-calling.

“On the other hand, Santorum demonstrated verve, aplomb and comity without seeming pedant.  Because of his statesmanlike manner and decorum, I am going to vote for him.”

[RWC] I suspect Mr. Homitz has one of those “word of the day” calendars. <g>
