Real truth on health care; William G. Horter; Beaver County Times; August 7, 2007.

I’ve addressed Mr. Horter’s talking points at http://www.TheBirdsEyeView.us/healthcare.htm, so I’ll try not to repeat myself too much here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“In response to Friday’s editorial about how Americans will have to make up their minds about what sort of health-care system they want:

“I have much faith that, if given the truth, people would pick the right system.  But that truth would have to come from the media, and I’m not very confident that the whole story would be revealed.”

[RWC] While this comment is likely true, Mr. Horter hasn’t been paying attention.  The mainstream media has been pushing socialized healthcare, just as Mr. Horter wants them to do.  Could it be the MSM just hasn’t been forceful enough for Mr. Horter?

“A lot of the blame goes toward the media, the fourth branch of government that did such a poor job of investigating the claims of WMDs and such in regard to Iraq.  Most, if not all of the media was simply a rubber stamp for Bush’s fabrications.”

[RWC] Yep, the press is a rubberstamp for President Bush.  Is Mr. Horter serious?

“And I think back to 1993 when President Clinton tried to change the health-care system.  The media wasn’t very good at remaining unbiased.”

[RWC] Note Mr. Horter doesn’t describe how “[t]he media wasn’t very good at remaining unbiased.”  Why no specific examples?

“The truth is that the system we have is the most inefficient on the face of the Earth, and no tinkering with it is going to do any good.  Private health care has been given enough time to show how well it operates and has proven to be a catastrophic failure.

“All we have is the most inefficient and rationed health care, the most expensive and the least productive.  It is rationed to the haves; it is indefensible simply on a cost basis.”

[RWC] Who is doing the rationing?

“The rest of the first-class countries have universal, single-payer systems where everyone, every last citizen, is covered.  They are cheaper by far, and it’s not beyond reason that this country is smart enough to install such a system as well.”

[RWC] Yep, that’s why a Canadian mother had to drive 325 miles from Calgary, Alberta, to Bozeman, Montana, to give birth to her identical quadruplets.

“There are so many reasons, in fact, that a listing here would be futile - just as any real debate about which system is the best.

“Our present system has to be scrapped.  There’s no other way to say it.  Anything else is simply wrong.

“And that’s the real truth the people have to be told.”

[RWC] This is the same tactic attempted by folks on one side of the manmade global warming issue.  That is, the facts, science, et cetera are so established that any debate of the facts, science, et cetera should be avoided.  If you believed the facts, science, etc. supported your position, wouldn’t you encourage debate to show the folly of your opposition?
