Altmire cares only for special interests; Harold L. Householder; Beaver County Times; November 29, 2009.

The two Householder letters (here and here) I know of were Bush-bashing exercises.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire voted against health care reform.”

[RWC] Not exactly.  Mr. Altmire voted against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and President Obama’s idea of “health care reform.”  Remember, in the healthcare debate, “reform” is leftyspeak for a government-run, taxpayer-funded healthcare monopoly.  Lefties refer to any reform that would return our healthcare system to a free market as supporting the status quo.  Please read my paper entitled “Healthcare.”

To be clear, though I applaud Mr. Altmire opposing H.R. 3962 so far, I have no illusions his idea of reform is anything like mine and ultimately I expect him to vote for some bill that would be both a huge lurch to the left and unconstitutional.  At the end of the day, Mr. Altmire is a lefty and I’m a conservative.

“He also has voted against the energy policy that tried to free us from foreign oil and stop global warming.  He voted against the stimulus package that stopped the recession from getting worse.”

[RWC] Does Mr. Householder really believe the cap-and-tax bill was about “free[ing] us from foreign oil and stop[ping] global warming?”  It’s all about consolidating more and more power in government.

Though it was a wrong vote, Mr. Altmire voted for the so-called “stimulus package.”  If the so-called “stimulus package ... stopped the recession from getting worse,” why did unemployment keep increasing?

“In Barack Obama we finally have a president who is boldly trying to bring our country back from the train wreck of the Bush years.”

[RWC] Sorry, Mr. Householder, but the policies that led to the subprime meltdown were all programs pushed by Democrats.

“I voted for Altmire thinking anyone was a step up from Republican Melissa Hart.  I was wrong.”

[RWC] I believe Mr. Householder’s idea of “thinking” is simply to make sure the candidate is a Democrat.

“Obama needs a real Democrat in Congress to help him.  We Democrats need someone to step up and run against Altmire in the primary.”

[RWC] “[A] real Democrat?”  I guess an Americans for Democratic Action Liberal Quotient of 88% isn’t good enough for Mr. Householder.

“It is time we have a representative who will work for the type of change we must have, not someone like Altmire, who looks out for the powerful special interests.”

[RWC] If Mr. Altmire “looks out for the powerful special interests,” why didn’t he vote the way labor union management wanted him to vote?  Perhaps Mr. Householder doesn’t believe labor union management counts as a “powerful special interest.”
