Get out of Iraq before more die; Edward J. Hum; Beaver County Times; December 28, 2006.

Mr. Hum led off his letter from September 2005 with, “Fellow Republicans, this is my last letter about George W. Bush.”  I responded with, “Anyone taking bets?”  This is Mr. Hum’s 11th anti-Bush letter since his September 2005 promise, and at least his 20th anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican letter since July 2004.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“There is a good chance President Bush will heat up the Iraq war.  When we finally realized we should get out of Vietnam, we had had 20,000 killed.  After we get [sic] out four years later, we had 58,000 killed.”

[RWC] Mr. Hum must have been in a rush.  He omitted his usual “fellow Republicans” leadoff.

“President Bush will heat up the Iraq war?”  I guess those terrorists targeting civilians and soldiers alike are the true victims.

“So far, Iraq has cost 3,000 U.S. military killed.  Add in 300 allies and at least 800 U.S. civilians killed, and we are at more than 4,000 now.  And without the excellent battlefield medical care, there would be 10,000 more.”

[RWC] 50,000 U.S. servicemen died during the Korean War, around 200,000 were killed in action during The Civil War (over 45,000 at Gettysburg alone), over 400,000 died during World War II, and over 110,000 died during World War I.

For Mr. Hum and all other body-bag counters, I have a question.  At what point during these wars should the U.S. have extricated itself to avoid more deaths?

“Add more over the next few years as Bush ignores reality to try to salvage his reputation.

“Bring back the draft.  Then, we will have more volunteers for the Texas Air National Guard.”

[RWC] Folks like Mr. Hum are amazing.  In their jihad to bash President Bush, they have no problem making the Texas Air National Guard drive-by victims.

“It may be nasty to talk about Bush’s military record, but look at former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s retirement ceremony.  Greatest secretary of defense ever!  Have the Bush people no shame?”

[RWC] At least President Bush has a military record.  Bill Clinton evaded (an illegal act) the Vietnam draft by deceiving an Army colonel into admitting him to the ROTC program.  Mr. Clinton then ran back to school in England and actively protested the U.S. government.  To make it even better – and after he was 100% sure he couldn’t be drafted, Mr. Clinton wrote a letter to the aforementioned colonel describing how Mr. Clinton duped him.
