Cadillac or go-cart coverage?; C.J. Hurlbert; Beaver County Times; September 21, 2004.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“President Bush got us into debt by the way he went after his disastrous, ‘mission accomplished war.’”

[RWC] Yeah, that’s right, the United States was debt free before President Bush’s inauguration.  Not.

“Now, he has proposed a new health-care program.  During one of his speeches, he actually said, ‘Wouldn’t it be better to own your own health care?’

“Hmm, let’s see.  Maybe I can afford a Cadillac policy?  Not.  I’ll be lucky if I will be able to afford a go-cart policy while Bush and his base (the have mores) will have no problem getting the Cadillac policy.”

[RWC] So, Mr. Hurlbert believes someone other than Mr. Hurlbert is responsible for his healthcare?  What’s next?  Must the government also own our cars, homes, et cetera?

The “have mores” comment fuels myth and class warfare, two liberal tactics when they can’t support their position with fact and logic.  First, the idea that the Republican Party is the “party of the rich” is a myth.  Second, Mr. Hurlbert worries that someone may be able to afford better healthcare than he.  Earth to Mr. Hurlbert, the wealthy will always be able to afford better healthcare than the rest of the population.  So what?  Except for those few of us unable to provide for ourselves, we should get the healthcare we can afford.  Any other approach results in higher costs and lower availability.

“Bush and Cheney are con artists when it comes to blurring reality.  It’s called propaganda, and it’s used to manipulate the public’s reason and emotions to persuade you to believe them.

[RWC] Mr. Hurlbert, please provide examples you can support with verifiable facts.  Note, a Democrat – or Republican – talking points document doesn’t count as a credible source.

“Bush had four years to do something.  Now, he wants four more years to do the job.  If you or I don’t do the job we are hired for, we get fired.  It’s time for a change of guard.”

[RWC] Mr. Hurlbert sounds like a Piroli echo chamber with his “Bush had four years to do something” paragraph.  Does anyone believe any president can accomplish all his goals in one term?
