If we followed the Bible …; Mary Jones; Beaver County Times; May 1, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“I’m not going to debate whether God exists or not.  Those that believe will continue to believe, and the others will continue to doubt.  I happen to believe he created all of us, and the Bible is our handbook for a blessed life.

“Take the Ten Commandments.  If we obeyed them there would be no murders or robberies, no gun makers, no policemen, no security firms, no investigators.  If we didn’t commit adultery, there would be no divorce attorneys, no counselors, no divorce court, no HIV.”

[RWC] Not exactly.  We’d still have guns to hunt for food, so we’d still have gun makers.  I’m no expert on marriage, but adultery is not the sole reason for divorces.  Likewise, I’m no expert on HIV, but I believe adultery is not the only reason for the spread of HIV.

Don’t get me wrong.  If we all followed the 10 Commandments the world would be a better place.  That said, following the 10 Commandments doesn’t address all issues.

“The list of jobs eliminated goes on and on.  But I guess since we live in a society that treasures our money, sin keeps us employed.”
