Don’t elect Bush’s clone; Glenn Kimbrough, Jr.; Beaver County Times; September 30, 2008.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Our country is spiraling downward in an eight-year free fall.”

[RWC] This letter is no more than a list of old talking points.  I suspect this Glenn Kimbrough is the same one referenced in an August New York Times piece.

“Those of us with a little wisdom and conviction know who is responsible: George W. Bush, the worst president in our history.”

[RWC] In other words, if you don’t agree with Mr. Kimbrough, you don’t have “wisdom and conviction.”  I guess Mr. Kimbrough forgot about Jimmy “Stagflation” “Misery Index” Carter.

“Now, he wants us to elect his Senate yes man, his alter ego who voted with him 90 percent of the time, John ‘McClone’ McCain, to continue his legacy.”

[RWC] Mr. Kimbrough didn’t tell us how many times Barack Obama voted with House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).  As I’ve written previously, don’t you expect members of the same party to agree on the issues the vast majority of the time?  If they don’t, someone is in the wrong party.

I guess Mr. Kimbrough didn’t like William Horter’s “McSame.” <g>  I actually get a kick out of the “McSame” and “McClone” labels.  You may recall the left always held Mr. McCain up as an example of a “good Republican” because of all the times he opposed President Bush and the mythology of the 2000 Republican primary campaign.  Now that Mr. McCain is running for President, he’s suddenly a clone of President Bush.

“There are too many of us who cannot afford even one more year of Bush’s policies.

“Let’s take a look at his accomplishments.  Under false pretenses, he sent our courageous men and women to war to be killed and maimed.  Our health care system is in shambles, particularly for the elderly who need it the most.”

[RWC] Yep, I’m sure President Bush’s objective was to send “our courageous men and women to war to be killed and maimed.”  Mr. Kimbrough, when you can provide credible evidence President Bush lied, I’ll listen.

I can’t speak for Mr. Kimbrough’s healthcare system, but my healthcare (Which I pay for out of my own pocket.) is just fine.

I guess Mr. Kimbrough forgot about the Medicare prescription drug plan President Bush plus Congress added but Mr. McCain opposed.

“Who can forget the hundreds of lives, jobs and homes lost during Hurricane Katrina, not failing to mention his lack of care and slow response to the situation?”

[RWC] Is Mr. Kimbrough claiming President Bush was responsible for Hurricane Katrina?  Mr. Kimbrough failed to note Democrats controlled Louisiana and New Orleans at the time and state and local governments are responsible for first response, not the feds.  Further, the Democrat Governor Blanco was caught admitting to her aide that she should have called up the National Guard when President Bush recommended it.

“Under Bush’s’ tenure, we have seen the middle class dissolve and a sense of hopelessness among the American people.  I could go on and on about our economy and the crisis that he has left us in, but there isn’t enough space.”

[RWC] Translation: Mr. Kimbrough is tired of making stuff up for now.

“If you are satisfied with the condition of our country and the mess that Bush has left, then vote for McCain.  If you want change and a chance to take back your country, then on Nov. 4 choose the Obama/Biden ticket.”

[RWC] Well, Obama supporters are still batting 1.000.  To date, not one letter has told us why to support Mr. Obama except for nebulous “change.”
