Altmire a clone of Hart; Stephen F. Kislock, III; Beaver County Times; August 15, 2007.

This letter appears to be a regurgitation of one written by Ian Thompson (link below), even to the point of using the term “Bushie” as did Mr. Thompson’s letter.  Come one guys, let’s have a little creativity. <g>

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“I thought we in the 4th Congressional District had elected a Democrat?  U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire is a clone of former U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart and he can now claim the title of ‘Loyal Bushie.’

[RWC] While Ms. Hart is a fairly liberal Republican (though not a RINO), asserting Mr. Altmire is a clone of Ms. Hart says more about Mr. Kislock than it does either Ms. Hart or Mr. Altmire.

“Final vote results on the Protect America Act show Altmire/Hart was one of 41 Democrats who voted for passage.  Altmire, along with 186 of his Republican brothers in arms, gave the Bush administration, let’s say, unlimited power to spy on Americans.

“I will believe the Bush/Cheney administration when weapons of mass destruction are found in Iraq.  Where is Osama bin Laden, Altmire, or are you like your president and do not care?

“I do not want my representative to put any president above the law.  Altmire may have been too busy playing football and missed the classes on the Constitution and The Bill of Rights.

“With the passage of the Protect America Act, the Bush administration can listen into Americans’ phone calls and Internet communications when they are ‘reasonably believed’ to be outside the country as not being surveillance.  Who is your Internet provider?  Who handles your phone calls?  If it’s routed to another country, they will be listening.

“Altmire fooled me once, and he’s not going to do it again.”

[RWC] I covered this topic extensively in my critique of Ian Thompson’s letter “Casey and Altmire caved in” (8/9/07).  Read the amendment on The Library of Congress website and I believe you’ll find Mr. Kislock’s letter completely misrepresents the amendment’s content.
