Most of Mr. Kislock’s 27+ letters over the last four years have been Republican-bashing exercises.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.


“There’s no future for the U.S. Congress.  The G.W. Bush administration has effectively dismantled Congress and the Constitution.  Congress, a willing bystander to this act, shall be rewarded.

“The House of Representatives and the Senate shall not meet more than required by the president.  The Senate, without any power of subpoena or sanction, will have oversight of baseball and the House, without any power of subpoena or sanction, will have oversight of football.  Oversight of all other sports will be determined by the Supreme Court.  Congress shall be given several employees with empirical knowledge of the sport as judged by the Supreme Court.

“Congress shall approve all legislation sent to it by the president, vice president, secretary of war/finance, et. al., with neither debate nor changes permitted.

“By explicit presidential decree, Congress shall meet one day a year, and that day is on the Imperial State of the Homeland Address.”

[RWC] Did Mr. Kislock forget Democrats became the majority party in both houses of Congress in January 2007?  Perhaps not.  As a reminder, Mr. Kislock previously referred to Democrats Jason Altmire and Bob Casey, Jr., as clones of their Republican predecessors Melissa Hart and Rick Santorum.

“The Supreme Court will function, as usual, at the behest of the president and will meet yearly on the day of the Imperial Homeland Address.

“The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the president.  This change from ‘the people’ to ‘the president,’ formerly of the IX Amendment, will be done by signing statement.

“Can what Congress has given away ever be gotten back?  The next president — Barack Obama, — will inherit from G.W. Bush the imperial mantle.  May he wear it well.”

[RWC] I wonder how much of this stuff Mr. Kislock really believes.
