Corbett should go after Republicans; Stephen F. Kislock, III; Beaver County Times; March 29, 2009.

Most of Mr. Kislock’s 30+ letters over the last four years have been Republican-bashing exercises.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett is making big news with the charges against former state Rep. Mike Veon and Beaver Initiative for Growth.

“It seems to me that Democrats are being singled out for grand jury proceedings.  The two-party system has Republicans who are not pure as Ivory soap, yet for the two-plus years worth of grand jury proceedings, the Republican attorney general has yet to bring charges against any Republican.  Why?

“Both parties initially were in the news, and different amounts of public money were used for illegal political campaigning.  Yet I only see and hear about Democrats. Why?”

[RWC] When Democrats were constantly talking about the alleged Republican “culture of corruption,” I don’t recall any letters from Mr. Kislock complaining that Democrats weren’t being mentioned.

“After considering all the reasons for Corbett to only prosecute Veon and his associates, I’ve come up with one conclusion — it’s partisan politics.”

[RWC] Given that most of Mr. Kislock’s letters – including this one – bash Republicans for one thing or another, he should know about “partisan politics.”

“The actions of Corbett remind me a lot of the former U.S. attorney generals in the G.W. Bush administration.  The law is to be used as a club, and justice be damned.”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Kislock missed the Republicans prosecuted by the U.S. attorneys, former Rep. Duke Cunningham being one example.  Upon which Democrats did the Bush U.S. attorneys use the law “as a club?”

In any case, if it turns out Mr. Corbett let politics play a role in his efforts, I’ll be one of the first to support his impeachment.
