Gulf states are paying the piper; Stephen F. Kislock, III; Beaver County Times; July 11, 2010.

Most of Mr. Kislock’s 54+ letters over the last six years have been Republican-bashing exercises, though he sometimes goes after Democrats for his pet causes.  Sometime during 2009 Mr. Kislock became an in-house commentator for Beaver County Blue.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The states in the Gulf of Mexico sowed the seeds and reaped the benefits from off-shore drilling for years.”

[RWC] If there are any “states in the Gulf of Mexico,” they have bigger problems than a huge oil leak. <g>  I’ll go out on a limb and guess Mr. Kislock is a believer in the religion of manmade global warming and likely opposes all U.S. oil production, whether offshore or onshore.

“Today, the piper has called and is destroying all within its domain.

“The seeds they drilled have turned on them.  Like the Dead Sea, this will be known as the Dead Gulf of BP.  There will be no fishing because there will be no fish, just a glittering body of dead water.”

[RWC] Isn’t this what we heard would happen to Prince William Sound (Exxon Valdez spill), but didn’t?

Mr. Kislock appears to forget about the Ixtoc 1 oil leak in 1979-1980.  That Mexican well blew out and leaked over 3,000,000 barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico over a period of about 10 months.  Based on the info that’s been published to date, nowhere near that volume has escaped during the Deepwater Horizon leak so far.

“Trust me? [sic]  Was it worth it?”

[RWC] I wonder what Mr. Kislock uses to fuel his car or whatever transportation he uses.

“BP will go out of business as BP.  Tomorrow, a new (BP) company will takes [sic] its place, only this new business won’t be stuck with the bill.

“Trust me, this oil business will get all the tax breaks.  A tax break means paying nothing.  The right-wingers and Republicans have gotten everything they want.  No government rules and regulations.”

[RWC] Trust Mr. Kislock?  Seriously?

For the record, I oppose all so-called tax breaks not available to everyone, but then I oppose taxes on businesses because they are simply a government scam to hide our true individual tax rate.  “A tax break means paying nothing?”  Assuming Mr. Kislock has to file income tax forms, I wonder if he takes advantage of tax breaks like the personal exemption, mortgage interest deduction, charitable donations, et cetera.  If so, does that mean Mr. Kislock pays “nothing?”  I don’t have the current data, but for 2005 just the top three oil companies paid $44.3 billion in federal income taxes alone.  I guess Mr. Kislock’s definition of “paying nothing” differs from mine.

“No government rules and regulations?”  On which planet does Mr. Kislock live?  This is the same BS folks like Mr. Kislock try to sell us about the financial industry.  They can’t argue against limited government (not no government), so they throw up the straw man of no government to rail against.  When they can’t argue with the truth, they make up stuff.

“Looking at this dead expanse of ocean must seem like a small price to pay for ‘drill, baby, drill.’

“With the Gulf of BP as it is, no federal regulations will ever be needed for drilling in this expanse of dead water.

“Well-oiled Obama and his administration will see that we, the people, pick up the tab for this overindulgence.”

[RWC] Does anyone outside of Progressive Democrats of America – PA 4th CD Chapter take Mr. Kislock seriously?
