Marshall has sided with gas drillers; Stephen F. Kislock, III; Beaver County Times; February 23, 2011.

Most of Mr. Kislock’s 60+ letters over the last six years have been Republican-bashing exercises, though he sometimes goes after Democrats for his pet causes.  Sometime during 2009 Mr. Kislock became an in-house commentator for Beaver County RedsPlease follow this link to learn more about Beaver County Reds.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Be careful of what you wish for.

“In my case, I thought Mike Veon should be replaced as our state representative for the 14th District.

“Today we have Jim Marshall representing the Marcellus Shale gas companies, not the people of the 14th District.

“Marshall is fiscally irresponsible.  Pennsylvania is in a budget crisis, and what does he do?  He opposes the Marcellus gas extraction tax.  We are talking about hundreds of millions of dollars.”

[RWC] I get a kick out it when lefties talk about fiscal responsibility.  Mr. Kislock would like us to believe he’s concerned about PA’s “budget crisis.”  Keep reading and you’ll find Mr. Kislock’s real objective.

“Why are the Republicans willing to throw hundred [sic] of millions away?  Why are they willing to destroy the social safety net that in this time of high unemployment, under-employment and hunger is needed as it hasn’t for many a year?

“We know the Republicans will go after these programs first.

“The taxes that could be brought into the states [sic] coffers - $235 million for 2011, $320 in 2012, $400 million for 2013 - aren’t insignificant amounts of money.

“Republicans like Marshall oppose a severance tax on natural gas and oppose any of these funds to increase the state’s budget.”

[RWC] Here we get to Mr. Kislock’s real objection; he wants “these funds to increase the state’s budget,” not to deal with the deficit.  Who “is fiscally irresponsible?”

“Pennsylvania’s Republicans are watching out and protecting the rich at the expense of those who can least afford it.”

[RWC] It amazes me that lefties think the class warfare tactic works outside of the lefty base, whose vote is guaranteed anyway.  Besides, who really ends up paying for so-called business taxes?  You, I, and “those who can least afford it.”

“Remember in November.”

[RWC] Mr. Kislock knows the next election is in 2012, doesn’t he?
