Jason Altmire won because he listened; Sandra M. Kolavic; Beaver County Times; November 11, 2010.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“A win is a win is a win.”

[RWC] FYI, an Altmire billboard ad says “Altmire, He listens to us.”  Coincidence?

“U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire was one of the few politicians who actually read the Obama health-care plan.  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s war cry was, ‘Don’t read it.  Just pass it.’

“Since Altmire was elected to office, he has consistently done what is best for his constituents.  During the health-care debate, the ‘no’ votes of his constituents against the bill outnumbered the ‘yes’ votes.

“Imagine that.  A politician who actually listens to the people to vote in their best interest.  A politician brave enough to go against the party line.

“The old rhetoric that Altmire is more Republican than Democrat is a joke.  He was and he will continue to be a politician who will vote for legislation that is best for his constituents and this country.

“I say bring on 2012.”

[RWC] It’s true Mr. Altmire voted correctly on some major issues such as Obamacare and cap-and-tax.  I even wrote Mr. Altmire thanking him for his Obamacare vote.  That said, Mr. Altmire was in favor of these things in principle but claimed he voted against them for implementation reasons.  Face it, Mr. Altmire’s default position on an issue will be a leftist position meaning he will need to be convinced to do otherwise.  Clearly I would like a representative whose default position is conservative.  We also don’t know if Mr. Altmire was given an OK by House Democrat leadership to vote against some of these issues because Democrats didn’t need his vote.

Ms. Kolavic told us Mr. Altmire is “brave enough to go against the party line” but failed to note Democrat House members unanimously nominated Ms. Pelosi for Speaker.  Mr. Altmire’s Americans for Democratic Action (a leftist group) Liberal Quotients for 2007, 2008, and 2009 were 95%, 80%, and 70%, respectively, for a cumulative LQ of 82%.
