Ad backers should identify themselves; Benjamin Lambert; Beaver County Times; October 20, 2010.

I believe this is the first letter from Mr. Lambert in six years.  The previous letter was entitled “A must-see film” (10/24/04) and encouraged readers to watch Michael Moore’s film “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Who are the gutless people who have the following front organizations but who won’t put their names on political advertisements: Americans for Prosperity Foundation, Club for Growth Action, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Americans for Job Security, etc.

“What are they afraid of, a backlash for their business enterprises?”

[RWC] How many times have we seen leftist groups picket and/or call for boycotts to bully someone simply because they disagreed with the business’/person’s positions?  Here’s an excerpt from an article on the leftist The Huffington Post: “Huge raucous crowds converged outside bank employees’ houses on Sunday afternoon to demand banks stop lobbying against Wall Street reform.  ‘Bank of America: bad for America!’ shouted community leaders outside the house of Bank of America deputy general counsel Gregory Baer.  The Chicago-based grassroots organization National People’s Action, in coordination with the SEIU, bused more than 700 workers from 20 states to Baer’s neighborhood, one of the wealthiest corners of Washington.  The action kicks off several days of protests targeting K Street for lobbyists’ role in financial reform.”  The only person at home was Mr. Baer’s “son who was frightened and upset over what was going on outside.”

“We, the people, need to vote on Nov. 2.  Don’t let big business control our future.”

[RWC] In case you missed it, the only groups Mr. Lambert seems concerned about are those that do not tend to lean to the left.  On its website, the leftist Tides Foundation tells potential donors, “Donors’ privacy is protected and anonymity is ensured if you so desire.”
