Health care needs to be fixed; Simon Lang; Beaver County Times; May 11, 2008.

Please read my Healthcare paper for more of my position on this topic.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“In response to Wednesday’s letter to the editor “Health care doesn’t need fixing:”

“If the writer thinks free health care isn’t the answer and thinks the health-care system doesn’t need fixing, then why is he complaining about people’s mentality and exercising their individual rights to do what they wish?”

[RWC] I guess Mr. Lang skipped over the part of the letter that said “the price of health care” is the problem.

This is an odd letter.  The content leads me to believe Mr. Lang is in favor of a taxpayer-funded, government-run healthcare system, but he doesn’t say so.

“Surely he realizes that a privatized health-care system run by corporations and corporate pharmaceutical companies, by default, creates the situation he is describing.  It can be seen constantly every night on every TV commercial break — pharmaceutical companies plying their prescription drug trade.

“He seems very happy to castigate people for being influenced by the very health care system he promotes.  Strange musings indeed.”

[RWC] This may come as a shock to Mr. Lang, but TV commercials aren’t to blame for high healthcare prices.
