Potter Township location not suitable for plant; Joanne Livengood (JL); Beaver County Times; December 19, 2016.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Having attended a meeting and reading articles and also doing research concerning the Shell cracker plant, I have decided that it would be somewhere in between Disneyland and absolute hell.”

[RWC] JL’s half right.  I’ve seen the usual suspects portray the plant as “absolute hell” but I haven’t heard anyone with a brain portray the plant as “Disneyland.”

“I doubt that it could be possibly as environmentally friendly as the Shell people are trying to have the public believe.  I doubt the ladies from Louisiana would spend their time making up stories about the problems of a cracker plant.  Of course Shell would have to discredit them.  That is the oil and gas industry politics.”

[RWC] JL didn’t say how she defines “environmentally friendly.”

As for “the ladies from Louisiana,” in “Six Gulf Protectors Arrested Challenging Gulf Oil Drilling,” we learn the two women are anti-oil and “As Gulf Protectors [they] are calling on President Obama to live up to his climate legacy and permanently cancel future leases in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Why does JL “doubt the ladies from Louisiana would spend their time making up stories …?”  After all, we have a local/national lefty leader for whom no lie is too big or too little and inspired my series “They know they can’t win if they don’t lie.”

JL seems annoyed Shell defends itself.  If JL thought someone was lying about her, would she just sit back and take it?

“As for the hell side of the issue, the local and state government needs to be really sure that they are not bringing misery into our county.  It is my opinion that this particular industry is not suitable for the location at Potter Township.  I am not sure upon what information or logic the officials based their invitation to Shell.  I sure hope it was not a big mistake.”

[RWC] JL told us she did a lot of research, but she didn’t tell us what she found that led to “[her] opinion that this particular industry is not suitable for the location at Potter Township.”

“Potter officials, once you let them start building, there is no going back.  Shell will then be in charge of your township and more.”

[RWC] What?

“One question came to mind about the pipeline.  Why do they need a 94-mile pipeline for feed stock when we have gas and oil wells right here in Beaver County?  If they claim to be of financial benefit to the local economy, why not buy from the local royalty owners?”

[RWC] How does JL think the gas and NGLs will get from the wells – whether local or not – to the processing plants – whether Shell or somewhere else?  Does anyone want to transport gas and NGLs via trucks, railcars, or barges?

In any case, there are at least two reasons to have access to gas and NGLs from outside the county.

First, I’m sure Shell will purchase from BC producers, but local gas and NGL production alone may not be enough to feed the cracker to capacity.

Second, processing plants of all types need supply redundancy/reliability.

“Think about it Beaver County citizens.  Financial gain is good, but sometimes the price is too high.”

[RWC] Blah, blah, blah.
