Dotty Loebig – 8/30/12

Raise your voice and pray; Dotty Loebig; Beaver County Times; August 30, 2012.

The only previous Loebig letter to the BCT of which I’m aware is “Look long term on drllling [sic].”  In a letter Mrs. Loebig wrote to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, she appears to treat the movie “Gasland” as a credible info source.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The Times’ Aug. 19 editorial brought tears of joy to my heart.  Thanks to The Times for printing both sides of a scary issue.”

[RWC] I didn’t see the editorial (That edition is now in a local church’s recycle bin.) and the BCT doesn’t publish them on its website.  Therefore, I can’t comment on the piece’s content.  (Note: The BCT quit publishing editorials – both in print and online – during September 2011 then restarted – in print only – sometime this summer using the title “Take 5.”)

In her previous letter, Mrs. Loebig made it clear she opposes any drilling for Marcellus gas.

Until the BCT editorial hiatus, the BCT bounced back and forth on this topic.  Ultimately, the BCT appeared to settle on “OK, as long as we loot the industry for money to spend on lefty policies/programs.”

“Suzie Gilbert is right on informing about the mainly hidden concerns about Marcellus shale drilling.  With our illustrious Gov. Corbett making sure Section 3304, Pa. Act 13, passes, most residents, businesses, schools, and even churches, see only how they can profit.  They fail to realize the long-term cost to the environment and health concerns evolving as a result of drilling.”

[RWC] Suzie Gilbert writes for ShaleReporter.com, part of the BCT family.  According to ShaleReporter.com, Ms. Gilbert is one of “A quartet of women bloggers provides insights, investigations and commentary on how Marcellus Shale issues affect our everyday lives.”  Based on Ms. Gilbert’s previous work, I doubt she presented “both sides of a scary issue” as Mrs. Loebig claimed above.  You can learn more about ShaleReporter.com here.

As in her previous letter, Mrs. Loebig appears to imply you “see only how [you] can profit” if you disagree with her position.

“Gov. Corbett can’t leave soon enough.  In fact, he should be escorted out of town by a posse.  He has profited nearly a million dollars cozying up to big oil companies, greasing their palms as both benefit.

[RWC] This is the second time Mrs. Loebig accused Gov. Corbett of a quid pro quo arrangement with the industry.  Who’s paying off Mrs. Loebig?

“The little folks are far too few to beat them, but we do what we can --- raise out voices -- and, mostly, pray.”

[RWC] Mrs. Loebig appears to concede people who share her position are a small minority.
