Bush lying his way to victory; John A. Lovra; Beaver County Times; October 11, 2004.

This is Mr. Lovra’s sixth anti-Bush letter since September 30th.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“What will be next for a Republican Party willing to say anything true, false, or completely fabricated in order to get four more years for George W. Bush?

“First were the distorted versions of the ‘truth’ published by the Swift Boat Veterans.”

[RWC] The version of events presented by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth – whose members are Democrats, independents, and Republicans – was so “distorted” the Kerry campaign had to correct its own version of events.  Remember “Christmas in Cambodia?”  Remember when Kerry claimed only his boat stayed during an incident, but then had to admit his was the only one to leave?”  Remember when Kerry claimed a shrapnel wound for which he received a Purple Heart came from an enemy mine, but his best buddy Jim Rassmann stated it was accidentally self-inflicted earlier in the day when Kerry and Rassmann threw grenades at a rice cache?  These were only three of the charges the Kerry campaign had to backtrack on.

Didn’t John Kerry testify before Congress that his fellow servicemen in Vietnam committed war crimes on a daily basis as standard operating procedure?  It’s on videotape!

To this day, no one has disproved any of the claims made by the SBVT.  All Kerry supporters have been able to do is call the SBVT members liars without being able to provide one example of a lie.

“Then, in an attempt to gain votes through the use of scare tactics, Vice President Dick Cheney claimed that a vote for anyone other than Bush would cause terrorists to attack the United States.”

[RWC] VP Cheney did not say this.  See Scare tactic for my comments on this topic.

“Now, the latest political ads being mailed out by the Republican National Committee claim that if John Kerry is elected, he will ban the Bible.”

[RWC] The ad Mr. Lovra references never mentioned Democrats or Mr. Kerry.  See GOP’s disgusting campaign for my comments on this topic.

“What will be next?  A claim that John Kerry once kicked a dog?  Maybe that he has had secret meetings with Osama bin Laden?”

[RWC] “Secret meetings with Osama bin Laden?”  Probably not.  Remember, however, John Kerry met privately with the North Vietnamese in Paris during the Vietnam War and, along with Sen. Tom Harkin, met with the communists in Nicaragua when we were opposing them during the 1980s.  In neither case did Mr. Kerry act on behalf of the United States.

“It doesn’t really matter.  Whether it’s the lies that I have already listed or taking one line completely out of context to put in an ad, they will say absolutely anything, regardless of the truth to get Bush re-elected.”

[RWC] If it weren’t so serious, a statement like this from the anti-Bush crowd would be funny.

Democrats sponsored two draft bills in Congress then spread the rumor President Bush intended to reinstate the draft when he is re-elected.  When House Republicans recently called the Democrats’ bluff and brought the House version of the draft bill up for a vote, even the bill’s author and sponsor, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), voted against it.

Democrats concocted the story that one million blacks were “disenfranchised” by Republicans during the 2000 election.  The Civil Rights Commission, headed by partisan Democrat Mary Frances Berry – herself black, conducted a six-month investigation in 2000/2001 and found no evidence that black voters had been discriminated against.  Likewise, the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department investigated and it too found no basis for the allegations.  This year, Democrats are running ads and speaking in predominantly black churches claiming Republicans “are doing it again.”  During an interview, the man responsible for one of these radio ads was unable to present one case to support his claim.  If one million people were denied the right to vote, there would be evidence all over the place.

John Kerry has been claiming President Bush fired Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki for making comments conflicting with the official position of the Pentagon on the size of American forces to use in Iraq.  First, Gen. Shinseki was not fired; he retired on schedule.  Second, he did not make his comments until after his successor had been named.  Therefore, Shinseki’s comments had nothing to do with his retirement.  John Kerry knows all this but continues to spread the lie.

I could go on, but you get the point.

“They know that someone out there will believe it to be true, and we found out four years ago how important even one vote can be.”

[RWC] The only lies in this letter were those advanced by Mr. Lovra.

Other than making up reasons not to vote for President Bush, folks like Mr. Lovra never seem to present reasons to vote for John Kerry.  As I mentioned above, this is Mr. Lovra’s 5th anti-Bush letter since September 30th.  Mr. Lovra told us over and over why he thinks we should vote against President Bush.  In all those letters, though, not once did Mr. Lovra tell us why we should vote for John Kerry.  That tells me a lot.
