Election interference demands a runoff; Thomas Loxley; Beaver County Times; January 15, 2017.

A previous Thomas Loxley (TL) letter I reviewed was “Cracker plant will turn Beaver into Stinkville.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“The major documented presidential election interference by the FBI and the Russians has clearly thrown the results into dispute.”

[RWC] The FBI hurt Mrs. Clinton (HRC)?  Did the FBI force HRC to run a personal email server and force her to lie about it day after day?  The FBI gave HRC a “get out of jail free” card, but that was not enough for HRC.  All HRC had to do was thank her lucky stars and simply apologize.  Instead, HRC kept lying, including lying about the FBI report and FBI Director James Comey’s testimony.

As for the Russians, what specifically did they do?  According to the WikiLeaks guy, the hacked DNC email he distributed did not come from the Russians.  I have no reason to believe him, but does it matter in this case?  While the email was very embarrassing for the DNC and the HRC campaign, I haven’t heard anyone question the authenticity.  The DNC and the HRC campaign would have been screaming bloody murder if the email was not authentic.

The story would be more believable if Democrats didn’t have a “flavor of the day” excuse for HRC’s defeat.  Apparently, HRC being a lousy candidate and the Democrat/leftist agenda are the only explanations off limits.

To be clear, I don’t support hacking like this.  That said, are we supposed to ignore this stuff once it’s dumped in our hands?

“Now, after all of the dust has been allowed to clear, polling shows that well over half of America considers Donald Trump’s presidency to be illegitimate.”

[RWC] This appears to be wishful thinking by TL.  I spent a few minutes checking TL’s claim but didn’t find anything to support it.  It’s unfortunate TL didn’t identify the polls to which he referred.

Regardless, we are a nation of laws, not a nation of polls.

“Indeed, no amount of political declarations to the contrary can really change what is obviously in America’s heart today.  More and more of his own followers seem to be deserting ship as his nut-case buffoonery persists, and he continues to dodge all honest demands for the resolution of his obvious conflicts of interest.”

[RWC] I recently had the opportunity to be around a group of people whom I would have expected to be anti-Trump/pro-Clinton.  While I’m sure there were exceptions, these people had all their teeth <g> and were pro-Trump.  When it came time for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to administer the oath of office to President-elect Donald Trump (DT), work stopped as everyone watched the ceremony on a TV and expressed their approval.  Note: I’m just about always against anecdotes like mine when they don’t provide checkable info.  I’ll understand if readers don’t believe my story.

If “More and more of his own followers seem to be deserting ship …” sounds familiar, it should.  This was the same claim made about Electoral College electors.  In the end, there were seven “faithless electors,” five of whom chose not to vote for HRC and the other two chose not to vote for DT.

As for TL’s assertion DT “continues to dodge all honest demands for the resolution of his obvious conflicts of interest,” TL needs to get another news source.  TL can say he doesn’t like DT’s proposed solutions, but he can’t say DT’s not working on the issue.  Ultimately, though, there is no perfect solution to this issue short of forcing presidents to liquidate everything and put the proceeds under their mattress.

“Other nations have responsibly anticipated such problems and designed formal procedures for their resolution.  Accordingly, when such clearly documented contention arises, a subsequent two-person runoff election is required to ensure the integrity of the office holder.  Can we really afford to do any less in America today?”

[RWC] In case you missed it, TL said the U.S. is irresponsible.

What “clearly documented contention?”  To date, I’ve seen nothing to prove alleged interference by the FBI and/or the Russkies affected the outcome.

Essentially, TL wants mulligan elections until his gal/guy wins.

Finally, our election procedures have worked well for more than two centuries.
