Veon has clout; John Luraghi; Beaver County Times; March 7, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“You may have noticed that many newspaper articles, posters and billboards will have different opinions, sayings and statements, true or untrue, slanted one way or another about state Rep. Michael Veon.

“After all the facts are in and tallied, the truth is Veon has surely climbed the ladder of success in the House of Representatives and state government, being respected, admired and recognized as a leader among his colleagues in Harrisburg and honestly across the whole state, as the minority whip from Beaver County.

“In other words, Veon has what I would call clout amongst the workings of our state government and state officials.  Why, then, would a few neighbors here at home try to disregard his continued success and go for an unknown person, who I’m sure is a good person but is unfamiliar with this job and the workings of state government in Harrisburg.

“In reality Veon has put Beaver County on the forefront of the state map in Harrisburg, and his continued hard work, helpful ways and readiness to serve all 14th District residents and, really, anyone who calls upon his office anytime.  Veon and staff will help all of us.  Just ask.

“The money each individual earns annually for the most part in his/her lifetime is hard-earned money and well deserved and much needed in this ever increasing economy.

“Veon is part of this same cycle.  He is not a weak, wishy-washy person but a sincere, strong, hard worker who will represent work and fight for all of us to the end, and even fighting for himself along the way, which I’m sure we would all do the same, given a similar situation.”

[RWC] In his letter of around 280 words, Mr. Luraghi not once tells us how Mr. Veon’s alleged clout has benefited the citizens of his district or the state.
