Hart loses a backer; Julia MacLeod; Beaver County Times; October 26, 2006.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart will be the first woman who I have ever voted against.

“I’m 77 years old and have never missed voting in an election.  I have always voted for any woman running, regardless of her party.

“By doing this, I have tried in my own small way to correct the discrepancy between the majority of votes that are cast by women and the number of women holding government offices.  Currently, there are only 14 women serving in the U.S. Senate and 67 in the House.  This represents about 14 percent of each body.

“Even for this important reason I absolutely will not vote for Hart.  Her 98 percent voting record supporting President Bush’s failed policies has helped cause the huge problems we now face in our country.

“Think of the pain and heartbreak of the families of more than 2,800 of our soldiers who have been killed in Iraq, with more than 91 this month alone.  Then, add the huge number injured whose lives will never be the same.

“Think about this tragedy and please join me in voting against Hart on Nov. 7.”

[RWC] This is just another talking points letter and I’ve addressed them all before.

I don’t like to get into name-calling, but how ridiculous is it to vote for someone because of his or her sex?
