Matzie shows strength of character; Robert Marshall; Beaver County Times; April 14, 2013.

According to the BCT, Mr. Marshall is chairman of the Aliquippa Democrat committee.  Mr. Marshall wrote at least one other letter I did not critique (here).

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Thank God for Rob Matzie.  Men and women in public office rarely possess the fortitude and strength of character that Matzie displayed when he questioned Gov. Corbett’s most recent no-bid contract for website and technology services.”

[RWC] As you will read, this letter is the written equivalent of Mr. Marshall planting a sloppy, wet kiss on Rep. Matzie’s (D) posterior.  Since Mr. Marshall is a Democrat-party functionary (chairman of the Aliquippa Democrat Committee) in Mr. Matzie’s district, it seems like the BCT should have mentioned this connection between Messrs. Matzie and Marshall in an editor’s note.

Since when did it take “fortitude and strength of character” to question someone of the opposition party?  If Messrs. Corbett (R) and Matzie were of the same party it could be a different story.

“What most impressed me was Matzie’s willingness to do the ‘heavy lifting’ required to wade through the nearly 500-page contract awarded to NIC.  He then used the NIC annual report and other statements the company had made to correctly conclude that Corbett’s rationale for awarding the no-bid is seriously flawed.”

[RWC] I covered the no-bid issue here.  If Mr. Matzie or someone on his staff did as Mr. Marshall claims, isn’t this what we pay these people to do?

“Everyone in House District 16 owes Matzie a big ‘thank you’ for putting service back in the name of public servant.  That is something that has been missing for too long among our local elected officials.”

[RWC]  Eew, now Mr. Marshall’s adoration of Mr. Matzie is just creepy.
