Presidential affront; Rudolph Marzio; Beaver County Times; September 11, 2005.

Below is a detailed critique of the letter.

“On Aug. 30, President Bush attended the 60th anniversary of V.J. Day, at the naval air station at North Island in San Diego, Calif.  In his speech he made the following statement: ‘The war in Iraq was more like World War II.’

[RWC] I suppose it’s possible President Bush ad libbed, but if you read/search the subject speech on the White House website you’ll find the speech doesn’t include this statement.  Even if he had, so what?  Both wars involved enemies who wanted us dead.

“All veterans of WWII should be outraged that the President could compare his personal war, the Bush War, to the war that involved the whole world and suffered the greatest damage to people and property in the history of the world.

“This is an insult to the sacrifice made by the 400,000 Americans killed in that conflict.  To compare his personal war with Saddam Hussein to World War II is beyond intelligence.

“A person who was never in the active military service or involved in combat cannot make an intelligent comparison.”

[RWC] In his zeal to attack President Bush, Mr. Marzio just showed incredible disrespect for the hundreds of thousands of servicemen/servicewomen who served or who are serving in Iraq.
